Havana Local Tours Day 1

Havana Arrival

At the airport you will be met by a local rep and transferred to your centrally located residence, dinner included. The evening is at your leisure. We recommend wandering through the streets and, perhaps, soaking up the atmosphere and music in a bar whilst sipping on a Mojito.

Old & New Havana Tour

Today you will get acquainted with Cuba's capital city during a comprehensive tour of Havana. A highlight is the crumbling splendour of the historic neighbourhood of Habana Vieja (Old Havana), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The centre city is well known as one of the finest example of a Spanish colonial city anywhere in the Americas. Within the tour, there are stops on the impressive Museum of the Revolution, a tobacco house to see the rolling techniques of one of the most famous cigars in the world and also at the Havana Club Rum Museum for an insight into the history of Cuba`s most popular drink; as well as a chance to taste its delights! Lunch will be provided in an authentic Cuban restaurant.

In the more modern parts of the city, you`ll see the beautiful Colon Cemetery, the famous Revolution Square, other highlights of the tour are the Malecón, a seafront drive which stretches almost the entire length of Havana, and the elegant suburb of Miramar. Afterwards, you will visit the home of Ernest Hemingway which has been preserved just as it was when the Nobel Prize winning writer lived there. In the evening, you might want to consider enjoy the magnificent show of the famous Tropicana Cabaret which boasts more than two hundred dancers, a fabulous orchestra and astonishing acrobatic feats. Havana – Soroa – Viñales – Havana

Today you will travel to Pinar del Rio province, the most western province of Cuba, on route to Viñales, you will visit Soroa`s orchid garden which have been declared national monument. It has one of the largest orchid collection in the world, with more than 700 species, 250 of them are endemic. Before arriving in Viñales, you will visit a cigar factory and a working tobacco farm where you will learn about the lifestyle of the local farmers, as well as how the tobacco growths. Once in the small village of Viñales, you will enjoy Cuba`s most dramatic landscapes, the beautiful valley of Viñales is surrounded by unusual limestone outcrops known as "Mogotes", this is the world`s best tobacco growing region. A visit here is a great way of gaining an insight into the rural life of Cuba.

In Viñales, the tour include a visit to the Prehistoric Mural where a history of evolution is painted in bright colours on the side of a Mogote, an underground boat ride in the Indian Cave, one of the most fascinating caves of the area. After enjoying this spectacular environment you`ll be served with a traditional Cuban lunch. Then, return to Havana, Evening is free.

Havana – Guama – Playa Girón – Cienfuegos

After breakfast, departure to the Montemar Natural Park, within the Zapata Peninsula- the biggest swamp in the Caribbean & home of many endemic animal & botanic species. Boat transfer to the aboriginal village "Guama" also known as "Taino Village", located on the Treasure Lagoon & learn about the pre-Colombian aboriginal way of life, see the sculptures made by the famous Rita Longa. Lunch at a local restaurant. Return to mainland and continue the tour to Cienfuegos. Another stop on route to Cienfuegos will be at the historic Bay of Pigs where you`ll see the actual place where US forces landed during the 1961 invasion of Cuba as well as visiting a fascinating museum about the invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Cienfuegos – Trinidad

This morning you`ll enjoy a tour of Cienfuegos, a laidback maritime city known as the "Pearl of the South" due to its lovely location on a picturesque Caribbean bay. You`ll see the city`s well preserved colonial center and learn about its proud musical tradition and its famous musicians such as Benny More.

After lunch in a local restaurant, the tour will continue to Trinidad a highlight of any trip to Cuba. Founded in 1514 by the Spanish conqueror Diego Velasquez, the town became a major centre for trading sugar and slaves for almost two hundred years. The wealth generated by the landowners during this region`s dark past is reflected by the well restored colonial architecture of Trinidad`s colonial centre, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Your guide will give you a tour of the town before taking you to your private home in the early evening.

Trinidad

Enjoy the Caribbean sun & beach in Ancon beach, an excellent natural setting. Optional with extra cost and local payment:

Trinidad – Sancti Spiritus – Santa Clara

Departure to Santa Clara, visit on route the Manaca Iznaga tower, located in the Valley de los Ingenios (an ancient sugar mills setting). Your second stop today will be the city of Sancti Spiritus which despite having a wonderful colonial heart is well off the Cuban tourist trail. After lunch and a tour of the city, you`ll head to Santa Clara, one of the most important places in Cuban Revolutionary history, where you will see several fascinating historical sites, including the massive Che Guevara monument and mausoleum, his final resting place. Accommodation in a private house.

Santa Clara – Matanzas – Varadero

This morning you`ll enjoy a tour of Santa Clara. After lunch you`ll continue trip to Matanzas, one of the most beautiful city in Cuban known as "The Cuban Athens". Then you will go to Varadero Beach where you`ll have dinner at your all-inclusive resort.
