Guamá and Playa Giron... in Old-American Car including open bar in Caleta Buena!
The guided tour starts at 8:00 in the morning.
Peninsula de Zapata is one of the most complete wildlife reserve in the Caribbean, rich in birds and animals, and one part, the area around the “Laguna del Tesoro”, has been designated national park, the “Gran Parque Natural de Montemar”.
The first stop in this tour will be at Boca de Guamá where you will see the larges crocodile farm in Cuba which includes about 100,000 animals kept in separate pools according to size, age and species. Afterward you will visit Guama and the “Aldea Taína”, the villa consists of 18 huts standing on several small islands in the lagoon. Built of royal palm wood and thatched with palm leaves. The huts are supported on stilts and are connected to one another by hanging bridges or by canoe. In fact, the only way to reach this tourist village is by boat, which takes about 20 minutes to travel along the luxuriantly fringed canal to the lagoon from Boca de Guamá. Also of interest is the Aldea Taína, which occupies another of the islands in the lagoon. It comprises four earth “bohíos” (Typical Indian huts), a caney (a larger round building), and 25 statues of natives by the well-known Cuban sculptress Rita Longa. The figures form the “Batey Aborigen”, or native Indian square, and represent the few people who lived in the village.
The tour continues with the visit to Giron Museum, which cover the Bay of Pigs invasion using photos, documents, weapons, a tank and the wreckage of aero-planes that took part in the last battle, as well as films taken during the invasion. This fighting lasted just three days and ended in the rapid defeat of the invaders. In order to avoid an international crisis, which could have escalated into an extremely serious situation, given the Soviet Union’s support of Cuba, the US suddenly withdrew its aerial support, leaving the invading forces at the mercy of Cuban troops.
The last stop in this tour will be at “Caleta Buena” (splendid cove), located at 8 Km from Playa Giron, is perfect for snorkeling and diving. Lunch at local restaurant of “Caleta Buena”. Free time to relax with the open bar with national drinks until 5:00 in the afternoon. Return to your hotel in Havana.
